You may notice that there are five phases bellow. The menstrual cycle is often described in four phases, but for the purpose of supporting the body through food, it’s been separated into five. During the luteal phase there is a hormonal shift that takes place usually around day 22. Because of this shift it is divided into early luteal and late luteal because the body has different nutritional needs during these times. By separating them, it becomes easier to focus on the food that best support energy, mood, and overall balance thought the full rhythm of the cycle.

Menstrual Phase

The menstrual is the beginning of the cycle and a time when the body naturally turns to rest and reset. This phase is focused on supporting the body with grounding, nutrient-dense foods that help replenish what has been lost and encourage gentle recovery.

Follicular Phase

The follicular phase begins after menstruation and is when energy starts to gradually return. This phase can feel like a fresh start, making it a great time to nourish the body with foods that support steady energy and help the body prepare for the active days ahead.

Ovulatory Phase

The ovulatory phase occurs around the middle of the cycle when estrogen and energy levels are often at their peak. It is a phase of outward energy and connection, making a great time to support the body with nourishing foods that help maintain balance and steady energy.

Early Luteal Phase

The early luteal phase begins after ovulation as progesterone starts to rise and the body shifts out of high-energy and into a calmer state. This phase is a good time to focus on balanced, satisfying meals that help maintain a stable blood sugar and support the bodies balanced energy throughout the day.

Late Luteal Phase

The late luteal phase is the final part of the cycle before menstruation begins. During this time, it is good to focus on nourishing, comforting food as the body benefits from steady nourishment that can help support emotional balance and stable energy as the body prepares for the next cycle.
